Dear Bloggers and friends,

Oh it has been more than a month! I know I am such a bad blogger. Things has been amazingly busy in December. As you saw in my previous message, I participated to a market every week-end. I had many online orders. Then I spend two weeks in Kenya over the Holidays. My trip was amazing and I came back with many new ideas.

Now I am back in Berlin. Things have been slowing down, which is good because I am working for the Berlinale, one of greatest Film Festival in the world! It is nice to work in an office with other people and be part of this big event. I will post a few pictures during the Festival.

Here a re few pictures of my latest photo shooting with my friend and model Stine! It was so cold outside but she still put a short sleeves dress for me.

For the second time mon bibi will participate to Mut zum Hut, the biggest Hat fair in the world. Located in Neuburg on the Donau in Bavaria, Germany. I still have lots of work to do before I am ready. I am leaving on Thursday. The fait is from the 23rd until the 25th of September. I am sure it will be plenty of fun!

From 22nd until 26th of June I was selling my hats at a "Land Pary" in Bückeburg. The thema of the party was "Rock n' Roll and Petticoat". Here are a few pictures of this amazing week!

There is it! My new summer collection 2011. It's called "Les p'tites fleurs de Paris". I really got inspired by Paris and the 50's for this one. All the material also comes from Paris. I had so much fun. I wanted something fresh, colourfull and light. I hope you like it.

Visit in Montecristi

Last month I visited Ecuador, the country that makes the so called Sombreros de paja toquilla, better knowned as "Panama Hats". I had the pleasure to go to Montecristi, where the famous montecristi hat comes from. I bought a hat for my father and had the pleasure to see the lady work in her workshop.

Every morning before dawn her and her family get together and start weaving until the heat is to much and the fingers start sweating.

This hat will be a "montecristi fino". She takes one month to weave a hat like this one. Respect.

There is not much choice in her store section. But it takes so much time for her to make one!

From 23rd until 26th of June mon bibi will be in Bückeburg where a wonderful "Landpartie" ("partie de campagne" as we say in French and I could only find the word "outing" in English) with the theme "Rock n' Roll & Petticoat". The Bückeburg Castle is a wonderful location. The is a "Landpartie" twice a year, the other one beeing around Christmas.

I have not written for ages for a good reason: I am traveling through South America since the middle of March and I am taking a break and just enjoying travelling. South America is so inspiring and colourful. I am definitely coming back with new ideas...

In March ( I know, old news...) there was a wedding fashion week on Dawanda and they came in my workshop with a film crew. Here is the result:

The video is in German, but I am quite happy with it. The lovely model is my very good friend Lea.

I am slowly looking forward to being back and make new hats. I have lots of inspiration and ideas!

There is this Berliner Label that I really like. The designer is very nice, her name is Sabine Kessler. She makes wunderful dresses for any occasion. Everything is made with love and passion. She loves my hats and I love her dresses and when she asked me to borrow a few hats for a photo shooting I was so happy!

The past two months were just crazy with work. I was working at the Berlin Film Festival and I didn't have time to come and visit you. I hope you can forgive me.

I was very much looking forward to post these beautiful pictures of a Burlesque Artist from Berlin who is wearing on of my fascinators. Her name is Bettie Redcherry, I have seen her once live and she is one of a kind! I don't know how it is in the rest of the world, but there has been a great revival of Burlesque in Berlin and Germany. Hair accessories are the perfect eye catcher for these pretty ladies.

In this blog I usually talk about me me and me. But last weekend I have dicovered this berliner label that I really like called twisted talents> and I wanted to share. Located in Friedrichshain, twisted talents is a collective working in collaboratio with the fashion designer Betty Bund. And excuse me: they DON'T DO FASHION, THEY DO T-SHIRTS!

The other good news is: for every sold t-shirt one euro is given to the Assiociation "Ohne Schliddrüse leben e.V." (an association for people living without a thyroid gland).

This morning a production team came shotting in my workshop for a canadian website about classical music (http://www.radio-canada.ca/espace_musique/webRadioClassique.asp). They asked me a lot of question about my work, my inspiration and of course my life in Berlin. They have ordered a hat for a young canadian conductor, Yannick Nézet-Séguin, who will conduct the Berliner Philarmormie three nights this week. The hat had to be inspired by classical music.

I just came back from Mut zum Hut, this big hat fair in the south of Germany.

This is my stand you can see on the pictures. It almost looks like a store. I am quite proud of it, as it was my first big fair.

I met a lot of new people, nice people. The contact with the customer was warm. On the picture you can see me and Isabelle Fischl, a very nice women who makes wonderful jewelry that you can see here.

On this one, Annette from Panama Hut Galerie and I keep smiling even if we are starving and tired!

Going to Mut zum Hut!

Dear friends and followers,

I am leaving after tomorrow to Bavaria, where I am going to participate to the biggest hat fair in the world. I am over excited! It will take place in this wonderful Renaissance castle, in Neuburg an der Donau.

The initiator of this event ist Mrs. Patel-Mißfeldt, a famous German artist who devoted her life to painting and creation. She doesn't make hats but she adores them. She probably has a huge collection at home. She is one of a kind colourful Grande Dame!

I am looking forward to meet other "Hutliebhaber" (people who are passionate about hats) and hat makers. I hope to meet a lot of nice and inspiring people!

The last few weeks have been more than busy. I have been producing as much headpieces as possible for the upcoming Hat Fair taking place in Neuburg an der Donau in Bavaria. It is the biggest hat fair in the world (so they say).

The picture is not super nice. But I was impatient to post something already. I know I don't have enough hats yet. I don't know what the ladies there will like to buy, what shape, what colour, for which occasion. I am starting to be really nervous. How much bibis do I need for a 2 and a half days fair?

I have been wanting a website for a year. But I didn't know if it was the time or not. Since I am new in the business, I didn't know if it was worth investing so early. Now I know it is the next step. Critina, Elena and Brigitte (the programmer they work with) are working together for making the website as nice as possible. I came with the first ideas and they did a lot of brain storming and sent lots of examples!

Here a couple of them.

This was one of our our many ideas to use old models and put a bibi on them. But either the girls were not what I was looking for, or we couldn't use the image because of the copyright. I wish I could have just put Louise Brooks everywhere!

Cristina and Elena also suggested silly things. I just love this one!

Finally, the homepage is going to look like something like this. I love how the girl looks like a picture taken from a magazine from the 20's. We don't see that anymore! I love it!

These two Spanish girls just did a wonderful job. If you need some inspired graphic designers, they are the best!

Hey!

It has been a long time since I have written on my blog. It was Wedding Dress and then I had a couple of days only to get prepared to go back home. I am now in Quebec for more than a month and I am enjoying my time spend here with my family and friends so much. Still, I will be back in Berlin on the 26th. Looking forward to see my husband and cat.

I am sooo exited now that the thermometer is showing some signs that Spring is coming! Looking forward to wear more bibis on the street and presently working hard on a new collection! Today my good friend Stine came home and we did a photo session. The pictures are lovely! You should see the result and have a look in my DaWanda store to see what a mean. She is so photogenic (and I am a photo genius! :-))

Stine chose a cute little red cocktail hat with rasberry colour veil. I was so happy to give it to hear. Isn't she pretty?

Mon bibi hats are now available in Charlottenburg in the wonderful store Nico & Sacha. There you can meet Marianne, Margarethe and Carolin, 3 super nice ladies who have created this lovely place. Clothes mostly come from Scandinavia, but also from Germany and elsewhere in Europe. Have a look at their blog, where they keep posting new products. Come and visit Wilma, the nicest-cutest french bulldog in the world!

Ouf!
After 3 months of working for the Berlin Film Festival, I am back at what I like the most: making hats! I started right away this week, just after the end of my contract. So happy to be back in my workshop. Lots of inspiration and new projects. Mon bibi is going to Porto, Portugal! Will let you know more next time, now I really want to share a few photos.

Il était une fois, une jeune fille prénommée Céline qui habitait une contrée lointaine, appelons la “Québec”. Elle avait sept frangins, frangines et ils étaient tous bien pauvres. Pour survivre, leur mère, Môman Dion, vendait des pâtés faits maison.

Un beau jour de printemps, tout le patelin fut invité à la soirée dansante, organisée par René Angelil, célèbre chevalier-manager self-made-man, en quête de nouvelles popstars de tout acabit. La pauvre et frêle Céline, vêtu de guenilles et autres freluquets chiffons, s’imaginait déjà aux bras du prince charmant. Toutes les prétendantes de ce dernier auraient bavé devant sa robe faisant pâlir toutes les meringues de l’univers… Quand Céline eut soudain l’envie de chantonner “ Une colombe est partie en voyage” : Mon Père le pape Jean-Paul II lui-même, en visite à Montréal, en resta béat.

Mais que nenni, son voeu de devenir la chanteuse la plus célèbre, ne s’exauçait pas ! Pleurant tout son soûl au-dessus de son bol de sirop d’érable, elle n’entendit pas entrer par la fenêtre la bonne fée DaWanda.

Ma fauvette, lança DaWanda, ce soir, tu iras quand même au bal!”

À ces mots, Céline cessa de pleurer.

“ Chez DaWanda, tout est fait main avec amour!, s’écria la fée en tournoyant dans les airs. Allons, sèche tes pleurs et commence par vêtir ceci."

La bonne fée fit apparaître une robe et apprit à la jeune fille qu’elle était de chez GITTA-Design.

Puis, par enchantement, elle enchaîna avec un joli bibi, bleu lui aussi.

“ Qu’il est joli!, affirma Céline.”

“ C’est Gigi de mon bibi qui l’a fait juste pour toi! Oh! mais j’oubliais! Quelle tête de linotte je fais !”

Et d’un seul coup, la fée DaWanda fit briller devant les yeux émerveillés de la chanteuse en herbe, de magnifiques souliers

: “ Je n’en ai encore jamais vus de si beaux ”, s’exclama la belle, transportée de joie!

“ Ces souliers vintage des années 80’ sont magiques, dit la bonne fée. Ils te guideront et te protégeront. Prends cependant garde: au dernier coup de minuit, les beaux habits disparaîtront et retourneront dans mon Royaume!“

Céline partit, ne se sentant pas de joie… La demoiselle fut la plus belle et la étincelante des candidates de la soirée. Toutes les Dames furent attentives à considérer sa coiffure et ses habits, pour en avoir dès le lendemain de semblables, pourvu qu'il se trouvât des étoffes assez belles, et des ouvriers assez habiles… Mais au dernier coup de minuit, ses beaux habits disparus, elle dû s’enfuir, laissant derrière elle son chausson magique. Le grand Angélil pu retrouver la dame à qui son coeur était à jamais dévoué.

La fin de l’histoire, comme dans tout conte de fée, est heureuse. Le manager épousa la chanteuse, ils lancèrent de nombreux albums à succès et eurent un fils, fruit de leur amour, nommé René-Charles Premier du nom.

Et cui cui cui… mon histoire est finie!

I love the roaring 20's! I think you can tell on these pictures. I was providing hats for everyone. Marc and Joachim chose each one a top hat. The ladies had plenty of choice for hats. All the ladies hats were hand made by me. We hat a bit of sparkling wine and headed off to Bohème Sauvage, which took place at Heimat-Hafen Berlin. What a night! We drank absinth, played poker. Marc won enough for another round of absinth. We danced tango and charleston until 3 oclock!

Dernièrement, j'ai eu beaucoup de commandes de chapeaux et bijoux-cheveux pour des mariages à la mairie. La plupart cherchent des coiffes originales qu'on ne trouve pas ailleurs en magasin. Voici deux photos de Viktoria, qui s'est mariée à Neukölln le mois dernier.

En envoyant ses photos, voici ce qu'elle m'écrit: "Ich finde alles wunderschön, der Fascinator hat super gepasst und alle fanden ihn toll!"

Au mois d'août dernier, mon bibi a participé à la parade de mode qui a eu lieu lors de la soirée Bohème Sauvage, qui fête chaque mois l'effervescence des années folles à Berlin. Les chapeaux de mon bibi accompagnaient la nouvelle collection de Frozen Hibiscus, qui se spécialise en mode style vintage.

Chers fans de bibis,

Mon nouveau blog tombe peut-être à plat dans cet univers sur-saturé de blogues de tout genre. Je songeais toutefois à en créer un histoire que les fans (de plus en plus nombreux!) de mes bibis puissent me suivre au cours de mes nouveaux projets.
